Outward Bound Canada’s Expedition courses are designed to help you take charge of your life and realize what you are capable of. Each experience begins with a physical journey – stepping out of the comforts of day-to-day routines and into an environment that may be very new, adventurous and exciting, but also foreign and uncertain. Facing these changes helps to bring out new perspectives. Using the challenges of the course as a starting-point, our skilled instructors will teach you how transfer the skills learned on course to your life at home. These important life skills include caring for yourself, taking responsibility for your choices, expressing your needs and opinions with confidence, and working with others in your life at home.
Your journey begins in Kananaskis Country where you will set up your base-camp and prepare for the upcoming week of day-trips on the local trail systems. Surrounded by these rugged mountains, glacier-carved valleys, mountain lakes, and alpine meadows you will learn about cross country mountain biking, trail selection, effective braking, cornering, ascent and descent, and how to do a bike safety check. This program is the first in Canada to combine mountain biking with the traditional Outward Bound Canada process.
Designed for students without prior wilderness experience, this course will teach cooking and meal prep, minimal-impact camping, wilderness travel skills and compass work, and self-care. This journey also includes an optional 2-hour solo experience where you will prove your skills while being supervised (from a distance!) by our experienced instructional team. This course will be co-led by senior instructors from WinSport and Outward Bound Canada.
