The Wilderness First Responder program is designed for Outdoor Professionals working in remote wilderness settings who are required to provide advanced medical response. The program establishes solid rescue interface practices, uses of medical gear in the wilderness environment and an understanding of pharmacology in patient treatment. Students will experience a remote overnight long-term care scenario. This program takes 8 days to complete and will involve at least one overnight excursion that will take place near the end of the program. Majority of the program will be taught outdoors. Come prepared to be inside and to head outdoors in any weather.
Run in collaboration with Adventure & Safety Atlantic, the WFR course is designed for graduates of the Red Cross Wilderness First Aid. It equips participants with the knowledge and skills to evaluate medical emergencies and make decisions concerning field treatment and evacuation priorities. This course and certification is the industry standard for outdoor education professionals, guides, wilderness instructors, and people working in remote areas. It is also the ultimate in first aid and rescue training for keen recreational adventurers who want to be prepared for extended backcountry tripping.
