Outward Bound Canada’s Journey courses are designed to help you take charge of your life and realize what you are capable of.  Each experience begins with a physical journey – stepping out of the comforts of day-to-day routines and into an environment that may be very new, adventurous and exciting, but also foreign and uncertain. Facing these changes helps to bring out new perspectives. Using the challenges of the course as a starting-point, our skilled instructors will teach you how transfer the skills learned on course to your life at home. These important life skills include caring for yourself, taking responsibility for your choices, expressing your needs and opinions with confidence, and working with others in your life at home.

Your journey begins in the beautiful Comox Valley where you will meet your group and prepare for the expedition ahead. From there you will take to the waters, learning the skills of sea kayaking on Vancouver Island's west coast. This area is a paddler’s paradise, with its numerous inlets,  islands, natural hot springs,  waterfalls and cascading pools that blend with ocean water. We will continue to explore Clayoquot Sound by kayak, boasting incredible wildlife, rugged rocky coastline, old growth rainforest, pristine rivers, lakes, beaches and beautiful mountains.

Designed for students without prior camping or kayaking experience, this course will teach wilderness travel techniques and navigation, backcountry cooking, sea kayaking, minimal impact camping, camp-craft and wilderness safety. This journey also includes a 24-hour solo experience where you will prove your skills while being supervised (from a distance!) by our experienced instructional team.  Often described as the most transformative part of the experience, your solo will give you the chance to reflect on earlier conversations from the expedition, absorb important realizations about yourself, and leave behind anything that will no longer serve you going forward.
