Outward Bound Canada Veterans’ courses are designed to mirror select military experiences and offer opportunities to reflect on and discuss your deployment experiences, transition challenges and the impact these have on your lives. Kayaking on the Bay of Fundy is not only an inspiring experience, but also a reflective one. Being with this group in this world-renowned location will put your life into perspective, give you a new community of like-minded individuals to lean on and remind you of all that you are capable of. By the end of this course you will feel a strong connection to your fellow veterans, and will be reconnected with your ability to serve others, to strive for the very best, and not to yield in the face of challenge.
Your journey will begin when you are picked up at the airport in Saint John, New Brunswick. From there, you will travel to our wilderness base on Deer Island to get acquainted with the team and outfitted for the week. From there the team will work together in tandem or single kayaks moving through a progression of skills; from learning your first paddling techniques to practicing ocean travel skills including paddling and bracing techniques, ocean navigation using nautical charts and tide tables, and safety and rescue procedures.
This course is designed to be accessible for veterans of all ages and fitness levels and no previous experience is required.
Thanks to the generous support of individual donors, corporations and a number of dedicated foundations, Outward Bound Canada is able to offer Veterans’ courses free-of-charge. All course fees, equipment, meals, accommodations, gear, clothing and travel expenses are provided without any fee to the participant.
