YOUR INNER JOURNEY

Outward Bound Canada Life Compass courses are designed for young adults who are trying to determine their direction in life.  Take time away from your usual routines to join us for this adventurous and inspiring journey, where each day has something new to offer you, giving you a new perspective and showing you what you are capable of. Whether you are trying to decide on a career path, whether or not to take time off to travel the world, where to live, who your true friends are, what kind of relationship you are looking for or simply how to be your best self – this course will help you figure out your unique talents, what gives you purpose, what personality traits define you and will help you determine who you really want to be, helping you create (or re-create) the life that you truly want.

AREA & ACTIVITIES

Your journey will begin when you meet your group at the Radisson Hotel in Canmore, Alberta.  From there you will be transported to the Ya-Ha-Tinda, an area covering 3,945 hectares and running 27 km along the north bank of the Red Deer River. Surrounded by these rugged mountains, glacier-carved valleys, mountain lakes, and alpine meadows helps to put life in perspective and consistently proves to be an inspiring place of reflection.

In addition to the personal journey that you undergo, you will also learn techniques for travelling safely and effectively in the mountains, packing skills, trail cooking and meal prep, minimal-impact, navigation, map reading, compass work, route-finding skills, how to assess and avoid hazards, and how to move across scree and snow-slopes. This course also includes a 48-hour solo experience where you will prove your skills while being supervised (from a distance!) by our experienced instructional team.  Often described as the most transformative part of the experience, your solo will give you the chance to reflect on earlier conversations from the expedition, absorb important realizations about yourself, and leave behind anything that will no longer serve you going forward.
